Have spent the last few days in Dubai visiting my cousin and OH MY GOD it is hot here. I went for a swim at 8am yesterday and could barely manage ten laps before it felt as if the water was boiling around me.
My highlight of this stopover was the 25 year old knee-high Doc Martens my cousin fished out of her cupboard for me - they used to belong to her mother, my aunt, who died ten years ago and was seriously the coolest aunt ever. So they're extra special to me, and worn-in in the way that you can only create by actually wearing them for two decades and then leaving them in a cupboard for another (see my Instagram for pics).
My cousin has spoilt me rotten while I have been staying with her, buying me Costa iced lattes and taking me out to eat every day. It's too hot to do much else here, seriously. Today she bought me Marc Jacobs Daisy from her "perfume guy" (everyone in Dubai seems to have a "guy" for everything) and she bought us matching Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks yesterday when we stopped at Spinney's for groceries. We've also spent an unhealthy amount in Forever 21 and Zara.
I'm writing this as the sun sets, drinking Arabic beer and eating leftover olives. Tomorrow morning it's a 6am airport call and on to Frankfurt. Life is good, yo.
